How It Works

The Benefactor downloads Legacy-offline.html from GitHub. For maximum security, load it on an air-gapped device such as SeedSigner — no internet connection ever required. Choose a Benefactor Key and a Beneficiary Key, then encrypt your seed phrase. Together, these two keys form the single password required for decryption.

The Benefactor gives the Beneficiary Key to the Beneficiary to keep safe.

The Benefactor Key and the Encrypted Seed Phrase are packed into a Deadman Switch whereby, upon the death of the Benefactor, an email is sent to the Beneficiary containing the Benefactor Key and the Encrypted Seed Phrase. See Deadman Switch options.

Finally, the Beneficiary enters both keys into the Legacy decrypt data fields and the seed phrase will be decrypted and ready to recover the Bitcoin.
